Pegida leader Wagensveld is not allowed to come to Arnhem for three weeks, the preliminary relief judge rules. This significantly shortens the six-month area ban imposed by Mayor Marcouch. It now applies until April 10.

Marcouch imposed the ban on Wagensveld because the Pegida leader wanted to burn a Koran in the city last Saturday, despite a ban on demonstrations.

Pegida filed a lawsuit to have the area ban annulled, writes Omroep Gelderland.

The judge finds the mayor’s position reasonable, but finds six months too long because it is “in a sense an arbitrary decision to determine how long the serious fear of disorder lasts”.
