Mexico City. The 2025 Federation Expenditure budget foresees a cut of 10,268 million pesos to higher education, of which more than half correspond to the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which will lose 5,360.1 million pesos , regarding the authorized expenditure for this year.
The project delivered this morning to the Chamber of Deputies considers a budget of 101 thousand 793 million 600 thousand pesos for higher education, while for 2024 112 thousand 61 million 600 thousand pesos were considered.
UNAM had assigned 50,418.4 million pesos in the project for 2024, but now President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo proposed to the Chamber that 45,58.3 million be assigned.
Other higher education institutions that will see their funds reduced will be the National Polytechnic Institute, with 2,190.7 million less; the National Pedagogical University with 989.2 million less; the Metropolitan Autonomous University, with 1,337.4 million less.
On the other hand, the Coordinating Body of the Benito Juárez García Universities for Well-being – created in the last six-year term – will practically double its resources, going from 1,562.6 million pesos to 3,14.9 million.
