– The safety of the public and everyone involved always comes first, which is why we choose to cancel, says managing director May Brit Støve of Peer Gynt AS.
It is the first time that a Peer Gynt performance has been canceled due to weather since its inception in 1989
– The threshold for canceling Peer Gynt at Gålå is and must be high, and this is not an easy decision. We deliver culture in nature, so weather is an essential part of the experience. But we always put the safety of our participants, volunteers, employees and audience first. We have had a good dialogue with the emergency services and with the municipality throughout the day. With the clear recommendation we have now received from Sør-Fron municipality and the State Administrator in the Interior, we believe it is right to cancel, says Støve.
May switch to another performance
According to Peer Gynt’s general terms and conditions of purchase, the customer’s claim for any compensation or repayment of the amount paid in case of force majeure, as in this case, is waived. Peer Gynt is still doing everything they can to ensure that those who had tickets for Monday get to experience Peer Gynt at Gålå, explains the staff.
– We know that everyone who had tickets to Monday’s Peer Gynt performance has been really looking forward to this, many for a whole year. We have therefore decided in an extraordinary board meeting tonight that everyone who had tickets for the Monday performance will be offered tickets free of charge for the performances on Wednesday or Thursday this week, as long as there is space available. Those who would rather come in 2024 instead will get tickets for the performance on Monday 5 August 2024, says May Brit Støve.
Fortunately, it looks like the storm will be over by Wednesday, so the plan is for the performances on 9 – 12 August with Aksel Hennie as Peer Gynt to go ahead as planned.
All audience members will receive notification from Peer Gynt AS about the cancellation per sms this evening, Sunday 6 August, and by email on Monday morning at 08.00.
