Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced that he remains in office and therefore does not intend to resign.
Last week, he suspended his duties in connection with the corruption scandal in which his wife, Begona Gomez, is allegedly involved. On Wednesday, a Spanish court confirmed that an investigation had been launched into her case.
Pedro Sanchez wrote in a letter to his compatriots that he had to think about whether he would continue to lead the government. He then assured that he was convinced of his wife’s innocence.
A complaint against Begonia Gomez was filed by the anti-corruption organization Manos Limpias. Its members claim that the wife of the Spanish prime minister used her political influence to obtain sponsors for her master’s studies at the university.
The Prime Minister called the organization an extreme right-wing organization and accused it of witch-hunt. Today he announced that after considering the whole matter, he intends to continue his mission as head of government.
