Pedro Sánchez will reflect on whether to resign from the Presidency – 2024-04-28 16:49:19

The president of the Government, Pedro Sanchezhas decided to cancel his public agenda for a few days to reflect on whether or not he will resign as head of the Executive after the complaint against his wife, Begoña Gomezand will communicate its decision in an appearance next Monday, April 29.

Sánchez has reported that this four-day reflection period occurs in a letter to the citizens that has been made public through the social network X after a court of Madrid has opened investigation proceedings against Gómez for the alleged commission of crimes of influence peddling and corruption in business after the complaint of Clean hands.

“Unprecedented” attack

The Chief Executive regrets the “unprecedented” attack against his wife, of which he accuses Alberto Núñez Feijóo y Santiago Abascal of being “necessary collaborators”, and wonders if it is worth continuing to endure this situation.

A question to which he answers by assuring that he does not know and, therefore, he points out that he needs to “stop and reflect” with his wife.

“I urgently need to answer the question of whether it is worth it, despite the mud in which the right and the extreme right try to turn politics, if I should continue at the head of the Government or give up this high honor,” he adds. Sánchez.

He emphasizes that “despite the caricature” that the political and media right and extreme right have tried to make of him, he has never been attached to the position, but rather to duty, political commitment and public service.

All this leads him to affirm that he will continue working, but that he cancels his public agenda for a few days to be able to reflect and decide which path to take and that it will be next Monday when he will star in an appearance in which he will make his decision known.

The complaint, filed by an “extreme right-wing organization”

For Sánchezthe severity of the attacks that both he and his wife are suffering deserve a calm response.

Remember that the complaint against Begoña Gomez has been presented by the “far-right organization called Clean hands” and has assured that his wife will defend his honorability and will collaborate with Justice in everything required to clarify “facts that are as scandalous in appearance as they are non-existent.”

This complaint adds that it is based on “alleged information from a constellation of ultra-conservative newspapers” and that, after its publication, Begoña Gomez has taken legal action so that these same digital companies rectify what is “spurious” news.

He regrets that this strategy “of harassment and demolition by land, sea and air” has been perpetrated for months and that is why he is not surprised by the “overacting” of the leaders of the PP y Vox.

“It is as serious as it is crude”

“In this outrage, as serious as it is crude, both are necessary collaborators with a far-right digital galaxy and the organization Clean hands“, he adds before remembering that he was the leader of the PP who reported the case to the Conflict of Interest Office, which archived the action.

For Sánchezafter pushing the PP an investigative commission in the Senate, the judicialization of the case was missing, and that is what it says has happened with the filing of the complaint.

He believes that what they are trying to do is make him weaken politically and personally by attacking his wife.

“I’m not naive. I am aware that they denounce Begoña not because she has done something illegal, because they know there is no case, but because she is my wife,” he adds.

“The sustained attempt to delegitimize” the progressive Government

In the same way, he affirms that the attacks are against the political option he represents, which he says has endured the “sustained attempt to delegitimize” the progressive coalition government “in the heat of the ignominious cry of ‘let me vote for you’.” tchapote‘”, and achieved a new majority in the last general elections against the coalition Executive of feijóo y Abascal that predicted “conservative media and demographic batteries.”

By failing to do so, he points out that they have now crossed the line of respect for their family and personal life.

“Without any blushes, Mr. Feijóo and Mr. Abascal and the interests that move them – he emphasizes – have set in motion what the great Italian writer Umberto Eco called the mud machine, trying to dehumanize and delegitimize the political adversary through complaints that are as scandalous as they are false.”

“They do not accept the verdict of the polls”

For all this, he concludes that Spain lives the existence of “a coalition of right-wing and ultra-right interests” that do not tolerate reality, do not accept the verdict of the polls and are willing to spread mud in order to cover up their “glaring corruption scandals and their inaction regarding them.”

He believes that they also hide their lack of a political project beyond insults and misinformation and use all the means at their disposal to personally and politically destroy their political adversary.

Faced with this coalition of interests, it guarantees that it will always respond from reason, truth and education.

Sánchez meets with several ministers

Sánchez has met in the Moncloa Palace with several members of his Executive and leaders of the PSOE after the announcement of his decision.

The meeting, according to sources from the Executive, was attended by, among others, the first vice president, Maria Jesus Montero; the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Courts, Felix Bolaños; the head of Transport, Oscar Puente; the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdan; and some of his closest collaborators in Moncloa.

The objective has been to exchange points of view regarding the situation generated by the fact that a court of Madrid has opened investigation proceedings against Gómez for the alleged commission of crimes of influence peddling and corruption in business following the union’s complaint Clean hands.
