Pedro Piqueras leaves Telecinco after 17 years and definitively retires from television

The journalist and legendary presenter of ‘Informativos Telecinco’ Pedro Piqueras will leave the network after 17 years working at Mediaset and announces that he will leave television to retire “by his own decision, communicated and agreed upon months ago with the company.”

“Piqueras, one of the most recognized and beloved journalists in our country, will end his brilliant professional career after spending the last 17 years at Mediaset Spain, where he leaves a successful career at the head of its news, an unforgettable memory and an indelible mark “, the group said in a statement released this Monday.

In his place, Telecinco has signed one of the most prestigious faces of Spanish journalism to replace Piqueras: Carlos Franganillo, until now presenter of ‘Telediario’ on TVE and host of news specials, such as the one broadcast from Morocco or the investiture of Pedro Sanchez.

“Franganillo is one of the most outstanding communicators of television information in our country due to his balanced combination of closeness and rigor, his professional versatility and his unique and didactic style to narrate current events,” highlights the network.

The proposal made to Carlos Franganillo and the conversations to finalize the agreement for his incorporation have been one of the first initiatives carried out by the new News Director of Mediaset España, Francisco Moreno. Telecinco has been immersed in a series of changes that range from the cancellation of ‘Sálvame’, to betting on new faces in programs like ‘GH VIP’ with Marta Flich or renewing its mornings with two new programs and sending Ana Rosa Quintana to the afternoons with ‘TardeAR’.
