Pedro Hidalgo reaches the equator of his ‘Goal Santiago’: Pedro Hidalgo reaches the equator of his ‘Goal Santiago’ | Radio Algeciras | Present

Pedro Hidalgo began his journey on July 1 from the Plaza Alta in Algeciras. A goal had been set get to Santiago de Compostela in just over 50 stages. But that objective had an ultimate goal of making rare diseases visible and trying to raise some 30,000 euros that would go to the collective Diagnostic Objective.

Pedro has gone through the program today and has told us some anecdote and also some disappointment in some city council, that of Mérida, which did not know how to understand the merits of the solidarity goal that Pedro pursues. But otherwise everything is going according to plan.

They usually start their day around 6 in the morning to end at noon and thus avoid the hottest hours. He started the road with some new shoes but these caused him some annoying blisters after two days of walking, so he made use of some old ones that he carried in his bulky backpack, “I hope they last me a long time.”

Pedro tells us that since his departure from Algeciras a solidarity network of municipalities who lend him a hand and cover his overnight stay and food for the day, “I have no words, there are very good people that I am meeting on this path.” Our walk is strong and lively and he hopes to be in Santiago next August 20.

So far they have managed to raise a total of 8,500 euros, although the goal is set at 30,000 euros. “I am squeezing myself in every way and I feel happy. I am achieving the goal that I set for myself.”
