Pedro: “Being a starter … was a spectacular moment” | Radio Club Tenerife

It is 10 years since the semifinal that changed the history of the Spanish team. The team led by Vicente del Bosque achieved victory and qualified for the first World Cup final in its history. And in the duel against Team, a man from Tenerife among the chosen ones. Pedro Rodríguez started one of the most important matches of his award-winning sports career.

“For a child from a coastal town on an island like Tenerife to be in a World Cup semi-final defending that shirt … it was a spectacular moment,” he recalls.

“On the island I always played with my brother and his friends, who were older than me. And I was very clear that I wanted to be a player”, recalls Pedro, one of the protagonists of the documentary ‘The secrets of La Roja – Champions of the World’, idaeado by Sports & Life. An excerpt of this work is broadcast for the first time this Tuesday by Radio Club Tenerife.

Pedro shares the limelight in an exquisite audiovisual work with other protagonists of the 2010 feat, such as Del Bosque, Xavi, Iniesta or Casillas. “It was a coincidence that Barça called me to do a test and obviously I did not think about it,” says Abades about the moment that his dream as a soccer player took a key turn to explain his success.

The Tenerife journalist Míchel Martín is the father of the idea and serves as executive producer on an ambitious audiovisual project that arrives on Rakuten TV this weekend.

He documentary recounts the path of the Spanish team in their victory in the World Cup in South Africa, which will be 10 years old this summer. The documentary, designed by Sports & Life and produced in collaboration with Grupo Secuoya, will premiere on July 9 in the ‘free’ section of the platform, so that will be available for free in the 42 countries that Rakuten TV operates.

‘The secrets of La Roja – Campeones del Mundo’ will offer a different approach to the World Cup experience of the national team through the testimonies of its protagonists.
