Pedrinho has not yet taken office (scheduled for January 15), but he has had busy days in his first week as president-elect of the Vasco. Victorious last Saturday night, the former player has had a full schedule since then.
In these early days, he focused on institutional relations, in addition to seeking information about the club’s real situation and meeting the executives of SAF and 777 Partners.
Former player Pedrinho is the new president of Vasco
It was a week of many commitments. Meetings with the governor, councilors, current Vasco leaders, members of SAF and 777, as well as internal meetings with his group marked Pedrinho’s first days after confirming his victory in the election.
It was also a week of many calls. Pedrinho was congratulated by several former players, especially names who work in management. Edu Gaspar, Juninho Paulista, Ricardo Rocha, Amoroso, among others, sent messages to Vasco’s next president.
The first act was to follow Vasco’s 2-1 victory over América-MG, less than 24 hours after being elected. Pedrinho was on social media in São Januário, was attacked by Vasco fans and supported a lot, as shown in videos that went viral on the internet.

There, before the game, Pedrinho, accompanied by his friend and former player Felipe, met with president Jorge Salgado and vice-president Carlos Roberto Osório, in the presidency room. It was the first contact with 777 Partners executives. Nicolas Maya (head of operations), Don Dransfield (CEO of 777 Football Group) and Johhanes Spors (group sporting director) were there. It was an informal meeting, before the ball rolled.
The formal meeting took place the following day. On Monday, alongside his deputies Paulo Salomão and Renato Brito and other Semper Vasco leaders, Pedrinho met again with the current Vasco board and with executives from 777. It was a kind of kickoff in the transition of power. The relationship has been cordial.
It was a quick presentation meeting, in a hotel in Rio de Janeiro, with the presence of SAF CEO, Lúcio Barbosa. Reports show that no subject was explored in depth. The 777 contracts, for example, were not on the agenda. Pedrinho and his peers are interested in analyzing the agreement in full and want to understand the American group’s obligations. During the campaign they even talked about possible revisions to contracts, if applicable.
The reform of São Januário, however, was addressed. The topic will be the focus of one of the discussion groups during the transition. Those who were present report that Pedrinho was excited about moving forward with the current board’s project, probably with some adjustments, which will have to be discussed with Mayor Eduardo Paes.

First of all, however, the former player and his peers want to understand how the Constructive Potential works, the possible urban obligations in relation to the region and what Eduardo Paes intends with the project. There is no scheduled meeting yet, but there is an expectation that a meeting with the mayor will take place soon, possibly next week.
In recent days, Pedrinho reinforced that there is no decision yet and he will choose the best project for Vasco. The same transition group will also debate the situation at Maracanã. SAF is interested in managing the stadium.
The objective of the meeting was to provide a general overview of the club and the SAF. It was decided that thematic groups will be created, with the participation of representatives from both boards, who will begin sharing information at the beginning of next week.
At first, the meetings will only be with the associative club. It is Vasco’s current board, for example, that will give access to contracts with 777 to the group that wins the election. Conversations with the American company will take place later.

On Tuesday, Pedrinho went to the Palácio da Guanabara, headquarters of the Government of Rio de Janeiro, to meet with governor Cláudio Castro. Obviously Maracanã was the topic, but the impacts that the renovation and expansion of São Januário will cause were also debated, such as security and infrastructure issues in the region. Social projects that Pedrinho intends to carry out in Vasco’s name were also on the agenda.
There were also informal conversations with councilors to understand what they think about the Constructive Potential law, currently being processed in the Rio Chamber.

Overall, it was a busy week. Even though limited by not yet being legitimately in power, Pedrinho’s group began to act, collect information and work. The expectation is that the first definitions regarding the vice-presidencies will take place next week. Silvio Roberto Almeida is the favorite to assume the vice-presidency of finance, while Eduardo Cassiano is the most likely to be VP of Olympic Sports.
