The summer in Barcelona had left its mark on Messi. How else could it be. The magic foot from Argentina wanted to leave, but then decided against a mud fight with his heart club and in favor of fulfilling his contract, which was valid until June 2021. All of this could be seen in “La Pulga” on the field. The six-time world footballer, who only scored once in the first six games of the season, lacked the fun of football. There have now been nine goals, but it was seldom seen a Messi as we knew him from the years before – namely with fun at work.
But at 3-2 on Wednesday in Bilbao you suddenly saw him beaming again. Like a little boy who got to play football with his friends. And the reason for that was a youngster who was only 18 years old: Pedri. Because after the young man had scored the equalizer for Barcelona himself – it was his second goal of the season – he prepared the 2-1 for Messi wonderfully. Pedri put his sole down, the captain of the Catalans pushed into the left corner. A goal celebration followed, which was much more than just a celebration. Messi turned around, pointed a finger at Pedri and welcomed him with open arms.
