The Dominican Society of Pediatrics reported this Tuesday, that despite respecting the decision taken yesterday on vaccination against COVID-19 in children between five and eleven years old, maintains its position that each biological that applies to the pediatric population has proven efficacy, immunogenicity, safety, quality and regulatory endorsement.
“We respect the decision adopted yesterday by the Ministry of Public Health and Specialized Societies present, to start vaccination with Sinovac, which is currently available in the country; although we do not share it, we consider that epidemiological information is needed to justify this decision “, indicates a statement from the company.
On Monday, Specialized Medical Societies and the Ministry of Public Health decided to start vaccinating the pediatric population with the Chinese Sinovac vaccine, although they did not specify when they would begin.
Since the first meeting with medical societies in early October, the Pediatric Society established its position on the need for clinical results of COVID-19 vaccines trials for use in children.

“This does not mean that we are opposed to the vaccination of children from 5 to 11 years old, we believe that they should be vaccinated, as long as the vaccines have the endorsement established by scientific rigor”, notes the statement.
The society indicated that what should be done with the pediatric population is to update their own vaccination schedules for each age, in addition to guaranteeing routine biosafety measures such as the use of masks in those over two years of age and physical distancing.
Similarly, ventilation of spaces, disinfection of classrooms, hand washing, availability of drinking water, monitoring of symptoms and access to COVID-19 tests.
