The pediatric neurologist Carlos Seguías died this Saturday, December 12, due to complications associated with COVID-19reported one of his colleagues and friends.
He practiced his profession in the state Monagas, where to date Cocuyo effect has been able to confirm the death of eight health personnel workers in Venezuela.
Seguías’s family had started a fundraising campaign to attend to the doctor.
On the page to request the resources they reported that he had “a diagnosis of acute lung disease“. His daughter Naiby Seguías wrote that “with only 15% functioning of his lungs, my dad needs the help of all of us.”
The doctor did postgraduate studies in Argentina and Spain. His relatives highlighted that he was a pioneer in pediatric neurology in the eastern part of the country.
Health workers who died in Monagas
In addition to Seguías, the pediatrician and neonatologist have died in Monagas Light Duque on August 11; the gastroenterologist Juan Osuna August 24th; the bioanalyst Westalia Gimón on September 2 and the intensivist Antonio Goitía September 14.
The list is completed by the general practitioner Marisol Hernandez Nava on September 25; the nephrologist Marlene naffah, who died on September 26 and the sanitarista Victor Velasco.
Since there was the first death of health sector workers in Venezuela, on June 16, Cocuyo effect has been able to confirm the death of 232 health personnel from COVID-19.
In total there are 188 doctors (140 men and 48 women); 33 nursing (22 women and 11 men); eight workers; two dentists and a biomedical.
