NEW YORK — A man leaving a Long Island restaurant was struck and killed Wednesday afternoon by an intoxicated driver, who is now under arrest, according to police.

According to the Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad, police received reports of the crash that took place around 2:32 p.m. in Woodbury.

Detectives say police responded to the parking lot of On Parade Diner located on Jericho Turnpike for a car accident.

Allegedly, 62-year-old Willem Specht got into his gray 2004 Infiniti sedan where it backed south and struck another man, 61, who had just left the restaurant.

The pedestrian suffered severe trauma and was transported by a Nassau County ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m.

Specht remained at the scene and was arrested. Since then he has been charged with driving while intoxicated, second degree reckless endangerment, second degree assault, second degree vehicular manslaughter and second degree manslaughter.

It is scheduled to be processed on Thursday.

Information from Specht’s attorney was not immediately available.
