Emergency services were alerted around 5.50 am. Ambulance staff tried to resuscitate the victim, but to no avail; the victim died on the spot.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident and the identity of the victim. The driver has been arrested, which is common in fatal crashes.
It is the third fatal collision in Amsterdam traffic within ten days. One died last week traffic controller on the Waterlooplein and on the same day a young girl in a collision on the Amstelveenseweg. Bee both accidents the victims collided with a truck.
