The Winterthur city police had to move out shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday due to a serious traffic accident on Zürcherstrasse.
According to initial findings, a pedestrian crossed Zürcherstrasse at the junction with Pioneerstrasse.
The driver involved, a 32-year-old Italian, drove at the same time through Zürcherstrasse in the direction of the main station and caught the woman in the area of the pedestrian crossing there.
The 55-year-old Italian required emergency medical care and was taken to the hospital by the ambulance service with serious injuries.
The police are asking for information from the public
A breath test showed that the driver, who was not injured in the accident, may have been drunk. A blood and urine sample was ordered.
The exact course of the accident is still unclear, the police are looking for witnesses. The accident recording led to considerable traffic delays in the city. The accident site has been open to traffic since 9 a.m.
