Peder Fredricson took Olympic silver in horse jumping – 17 percent from gold

Favorite Briton Ben Maher won the Olympic final after being the fastest in the show jumping with six riders.

He destroyed a Swedish sound-and-cheer performance where for a while it looked like there would be almost only Swedes in the jump.

But Ben Maher started last in the basic round and slipped into the jump and also managed flawlessly from the track.

Henrik von Eckermann came in fourth place in the jump-off, with Malin Baryard Johnsson as fifth.

– I am fantastically proud of everyone. What we deliver here, individually, but also as a team is on top of everything else, says Henrik Ankarcrona to Discovery.

Maikel van der Vleuten from the Netherlands won the bronze medal.

It was complete Swedish dominance in the basic round of the Olympic final in horse jumping. Henrik von Eckermann, Peder Fredricson and Malin Baryard Johnsson were all faultless on the very difficult track in Tokyo.

The only other rider to complete the course of the 30 starters was the Japanese Daisuke Fukushima, ranked 600th in the world.

Everyone else had at least one mistake, including favorites such as world setter Daniel Deusser, Germany, and Swiss Martin Fuchs, ranked second in the world, who tore two obstacles each.

In previous years, the individual result has also been included in the team competition, but as of this year, the two disciplines will be decided separately. The team competition starts on Friday.
