Eight thousand and 472 tons of fertilizers were distributed in the last three months to farmers in the province of Bié, to reinforce the 2023/2024 agricultural campaign, which starts next October Speaking to ANGOP yesterday, the director of the Provincial Agriculture Office , Felizardo Brito Capepula, stressed that the distribution is part of the FertiAngola program, coordinated by the Agrarian Development Support Fund (FADA). Products include compound fertilizer 12-24-12, ammonium sulfate and urea.
Peasants will also benefit from various seeds, such as corn, beans, wheat, rice, reindeer potatoes, as well as animal-drawn plows, axes, machetes, hoes and files, as part of the rural extension program.
For the 2023/2024 agricultural campaign, it is expected to support around 300 thousand peasant families, with an estimate of preparing 700 thousand hectares of land, across the entire length of the Bié province.
The official also admitted that there is a significant increase in the production of various food crops in the region, as a result of the Executive’s efforts to create projects to support peasant families.
Felizardo Brito Capepula said that, for the ongoing agricultural campaign, the expectation is to harvest a harvest of one million 272 thousand and 600 tons of various products.
The source pointed out that this quantity could be exceeded, given that the harvest still continues, as well as the capacity demonstrated by the peasants during the IV edition of the Bié Potato and Corn Fair, which took place from the 31st of August to the 1st of September, in city of Cuito.
