Alt-rock band Pearl Jam have announced the premiere date for their next studio project, titled Dark Matter, and unveiled the eponymous lead single. Listen to the new song HERE. The band’s twelfth album was produced by GRAMMY Award winner Andrew Watt (The Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop) and we’ll be expecting it on the market on April 19th this year.
Dark Matter’s cover features light paintings by Alexandr Gnezdilov and is made using a large handmade kaleidoscope. Each letter seen on the cover has been individually captured and handwritten in the air with a specially designed lantern to create the pearlescent effect.
Dark Matter is Pearl Jam’s first album since the critically acclaimed Gigaton (2020), which reached No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200 and No. 1 on the Billboard Rock and Alternative Albums charts. At Gigaton, the band developed song concepts over several recording sessions, and collectively the record took about three years to complete. H
and Dark Matter Jeff, Stone, Mike and Eddie arrive at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu with no preconceived ideas and no instruments of their own. The creation process is truly collaborative and the album is finalized in just three weeks. Mike McCready recently told Classic Rock:
“Andrew inspired and provoked us, made us focus and play song after song. Gigaton took a long time to make, but this new album didn’t take years. Andrew was like, “You guys take forever to make albums. Let’s do this one, right now.”
After sporadic gigs in 2023, the multi-platinum rockers are back on the road for a massive worldwide tour in support of Dark Matter. The band announced that they will tour North America and Europe and return to Wrigley Field for two shows on August 29 and 31, and on May 25 they will headline BottleRock 2024 in Napa Valley, California
