Pearl Jam has canceled the first seventeen shows of its new tour, which will take place in North America from March 18, due to the corona virus. The band wants to prioritize the health of fans, members share in a statement on them website.
“We have thought hard about a different solution, but the risk that our public and therefore also their environment is running, we think is too great,” can be read in the statement.
The band emphasizes that many fans travel far to attend a Pearl Jam concert. “We respect their dedication, but currently we must avoid travel.”
In the statement, the band blames the US government for not communicating clearly about the health risks of the population. “We hope that the rest of the country can avoid the major negative consequences of this, maintain the sense of community and care for each other. We look forward to our next concerts and to the moment we come together again to play our music, just as loudly and energetic as always. “
The concerts will be made up at a later date. Pearl Jam is on July 22 and 23 in the Amsterdam Ziggo Dome. The tour is all about the new album Gigaton, which will be out on March 27.
