TVPaul Anderson (45), known for his role in the BBC series ‘Peaky Blinders’, has pleaded guilty to possession of crack and cocaine. The actor was arrested on Boxing Day after a bar patron raised the alarm about a ‘chemical smell’. He now pays a fine of 1,570 euros and thus also jeopardizes his future with ‘Peaky Blinders’.
According to ‘Mail Online’, a café visitor reportedly raised the alarm with the café manager after noticing a ‘chemical smell’. Police arrived on the scene and searched the actor and seized various types of drugs – crack, cocaine, amphetamines, diazepam and pregabalin. The possession of the drugs could therefore not be denied in court, but the actor’s lawyer maintains that Paul did not use anything. “He is in an unfortunate position and should have had the strength to say no.”
In April 2022, ‘Peaky Blinders’ was on TV for the last time, but the show would resume with a movie. Anderson played Arthur Shelby, the older brother of Cillian Murphy’s Thomas Shelby, from the very first episode that aired way back in 2013. Anderson would normally have to play a major role in the future film about the well-known street gang. But his arrest still jeopardizes his role. An insider tells ‘The Daily Star’ that this has caused “huge problems”. “It will be difficult to have a ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie without his character, but it will also be difficult to have him reprise the role as if nothing happened,” he said.
“Inappropriate behavior”
Paul was also accused of inappropriate behavior by a colleague earlier this month. It is not known exactly what was going on, but Anderson himself denies those accusations. “The matter is currently being thoroughly investigated,” the production said at the time. According to the producer of the series, Anderson is also confident that an investigation will exonerate him.
If it turns out that Paul is actually guilty, he will be able to forget his role for good. “It’s still early, and shooting for the film hasn’t even started yet. It is therefore still possible to adjust the script and explain his absence, if that proves necessary.”
