Peak Holiday Weekend Traffic in the Alps: Bison-Futé Announces Red Alert

You are planning to go to the Alps to enjoy the slopes during the last weekend of the year ? So prepare to be patient. Bison-Futé placed on Saturday December 30 in red in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in the direction of departures. “Traffic will be very dense towards the region’s winter sports resorts,” warns the region’s prefect on X (ex-Twitter).

If the traffic peak is expected on Saturday, the first slowdowns are expected from Friday. Traffic jams are expected on the A6 motorway in Burgundy, then on the Lyon side at the junction of the A7 motorway and the A43. The road will be particularly busy around 4 p.m.

Peak traffic jams expected on Saturday around 3 p.m.. The A43 motorway between Lyon and Chambéry will be particularly saturated – and to avoid if possible – between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. There will also be many cars between Lyon and Orange from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on the A40 motorway between Mâcon and Annemasse from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

On the rest of the territory, Bison-Futé sees rather green, announcing quiet roads, even if you have to remain vigilant on the return of the New Year. The return road, Sunday and Monday, is also announced to be quite calm.
