Peacock renews another TV classic: “Punky Brewster”

Los Angeles (USA), Feb 25 (EFE) .- In full nostalgia for the series of the past, the Peacock platform will premiere a new version of the comedy “Punky Brewster”, a classic of the American sitcoms with more 30 years after its original release.

The comedy premieres this week on the NBCUniversal platform, which since its arrival has opted to revive familiar titles but updated to the 21st century, such as “Saved by the Bell.”

?? I love the format, it is not a series that tries to save the world in 20 minutes, “explains actor Freddie Prinze Jr., who along with the protagonist Soleil Moon Frye, has returned to fiction.

In the original plot, which aired until 1988, the protagonist was Punky, an abandoned girl in a Chicago shopping center who, without finding her family, grew up in an abandoned apartment with the help of the owner, a beloved photographer.

The new version follows Punky in his adult life, recently separated from his partner and in charge of 3 children with very different identities.

“The content from before was that of the people who wrote the scripts then, very uniform, although they talked about real subjects,” Prinze analyzed. “Now the same thing happens but we discuss things of the XXI century. That makes it similar and different.”

A similar approach has the new “Saved by the Bell”, the comedy that followed a group of students in an elite school in California and that in its updated version incorporates two protagonists of humble origin who attend that institute after the Government closes the center of your neighborhood.

THE CLASSICS RETURN

“Punky Brewster” and “Saved by the Bell” are not the only titles to return to television.

The explosion of the platform has caused studios to rummage through their previous hits, for example, this week the return of the animated series “Rugrats”, aired between 1991 and 2004, with new chapters was announced.

There are 2 projects to recover “Dora the Explorer” and “The fairly oddparents” with real actors, while the prequel in drawings of “SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie” is already finished and will be released on March 4 in the United States. .

Also “Fraiser”, one of the mythical comedies of the 90s, will return with a new version of the hand, in this case, Paramount. EFE
