An extra thick Peacemaker band.
Contents (blurb)
PEACEMAKER GIVES EVERYTHING! …to finally be recognized and make some friends. Which isn’t easy when you’re basically an ass – a likeable one, perhaps, but an ass nonetheless. And yet he finds a friend in Bruce Wayne! And when Bruce is kidnapped, Peacemaker goes to great lengths to free him. He leaves a trail of blood and crass sayings behind him, but also makes other new friends. If you’re confused as to why Bruce Wayne and Peacemaker are suddenly so fat, you’re like Amanda Waller… she doesn’t understand either. But if there’s one thing you can be sure of about Peacemaker, it’s that nothing is as it seems!
criticism
Since James Gunn’s new series, the Peacemaker has experienced a surge in popularity. Before, he was more of a supporting character at DC. Reason enough to take the hype into account and dedicate a volume to it.
In terms of drawings, they stayed pretty close to the series, with the exception of slightly more angular drawings in the first story. The costume and the character itself are clearly reminiscent of John Cena. Of course, this is particularly popular with those who know the series, but it can also be seen as such. Because the panels are colorful, have a good level of detail and otherwise you never lose track of things. In addition, the atmosphere comes into its own here, because, strictly speaking, Peacemaker is a kind of brutal comedy. So Brumedy or something.
But first things first. After an origin story that goes into the mindset of Christopher (Peacemaker’s real name) quite well and shows where his worldview comes from. On the one hand he may seem like an idiot, but on the other hand there is definitely a kind of, well, let’s call it hidden intelligence, lurking within him. Here, as in the series, they managed the balancing act really well.
Of course, unlike in the series, the companions from there can’t get involved here, or Chris gets new ones here. But first we have to talk about the dog, because actually everything revolves around the dog (it was an eagle on TV). He gets kidnapped, which makes Chris angry. So he does a bit of Ramba Zamba among bizarre characters, gets cheated and gets a more than adequate sidekick in Red Bee. He also has an animal, a mega-strong bee.
And yes, from these short texts, which only show a fraction of what’s going on here, you might already have an idea of how crazy things really are. Peacemaker is just different and the characters are still loving and fit like a glove. Bee helps Chis because he also loves animals – and well, because it’s the right thing to do.
And even Waller and the Suicide Squad make a small appearance here, which brings a few points of sympathy towards Chris, especially at the end. There are also other characters, like the crazy construction workers, Immortus and… also a few cameos from Deathstroke cut-offs and… and actually it’s all far too much and far too weird to spread out here. You should just experience the comic yourself, have fun and just smile along with certain scenes (I’m just saying: Wayne is kidnapped!).
At least one thing should be mentioned here: Flawless Dicktory! And with that we say goodbye.
