Jeddah: Saudi Arabia’s new move to end eight years of war-like conflict and insurgency in Yemen and achieve lasting peace. A high-ranking delegation to this effect is about to depart for the Yemeni capital of Sanaa. Sanaa is held by the pro-Iranian Houthi rebels in Yemen.
The success of the peace process will depend on the response of the Houthis. It is estimated that the current peace process is likely to be successful in the new situation where the Saudi-Iran friendly restoration movement, which is progressing with China’s mediation with Iran, which is the power and support of the Houthis, is very advanced.
It is reported that there is a move to declare peace before the Eid holiday which starts on April 20th. A leading Arab newspaper reported that the draft of the comprehensive peace plan for the crisis in Yemen is in the final stage led by the United Nations.
The Yemen Peace Draft consists of four elements. The first is a comprehensive ceasefire and the opening of land, air and sea gates. Subsequently, the draft document also stipulates the merger of the central bank, the formation of committees for the exchange of prisoners, direct discussion to decide the future of the country and thus the transition for the future of the country.
Oman is a Gulf country that maintains great friendship with Iran. The region wants Saudi’s move to cooperate with them to bear fruit. The Saudi-Oman team will return to Sanaa next week.
