Peace be upon you! RI Receives US Corona Vaccine Grant, Divided by Biden

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government of the United States (US) announced that it will distribute 55 million doses of the vaccine out of a total of 80 million doses promised by President Joe Biden to the world. The good news is, RI will get a part of the US plan.

Quotes CNN InternationalThe White House has confirmed that it will distribute 75% of vaccines through the Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX). While another 25% will be directly distributed to countries in need.

“Our goal is to increase global Covid-19 vaccination coverage,” the White House said in a statement.

“Helping our neighbors and other countries in need.”

Of the 55 million initial vaccine doses that will be distributed, 41 million will be distributed through COVAX, with details of 14 million going to Latin America and the Caribbean. Including Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, Bolivia, Uruguay, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Caribbean Community Countries (CARICOM), Dominican Republic, Panama and Costa Rica.

Meanwhile, 16 million doses will be sent to Asia. Besides Indonesia, the vaccine will be distributed to India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Maldives, Bhutan, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, Cambodia and the Pacific Islands.

Meanwhile, another 19 million doses will be delivered to African countries, in coordination with the African Union.

Not only through COVAX, Indonesia will also get vaccines sent directly to the US. But the White House did not provide details on how many doses will be sent to each country specifically.

There are about 14 million more vaccines, the remaining 41 that were given to COVAX that will be distributed. Recipient countries include RI, Colombia, Argentina, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Panama, CARICOM countries.

Then there are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Philippines, Vietnam, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana. Including Cabo Verde, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Tunisia, Oman, West Bank and Gaza, Ukraine, Kosovo, Georgia, Moldova and Bosnia.

The vaccines shipped include Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. While AstraZeneca has not been approved by federal regulators.

However logistics will be a challenge. From sharing safety and regulatory information, ensuring teams have the necessary supplies and transportation to receive doses, ensuring proper storage and preparation, and ensuring vaccines pass through customs including language.
