Faced with the deadlock and persistent tensions around the process of implementing the Peace Agreement, the international community announced in a press release published yesterday Sunday that it had presented concrete proposals to the signatory parties for the relaunch of the agreement. These proposals, which have not been detailed, were presented to the parties on April 7th. “The International Mediation is convinced that these proposals, which take into account the concerns expressed by the Parties during the various consultations held in Mali and Algeria, are likely to restore confidence and promote the re-establishment of a constructive dialogue, under the under the aegis of the Monitoring Committee of the Agreement chaired by Algeria”, one can read in the press release.
“The International Mediation observes with concern the current resurgence of tension between the signatory Parties. In this context, it launches an urgent appeal to the Parties to refrain from words and actions likely to compromise the efforts made by the Mediation with a view to completing the peace process, translate into concrete actions their proclaimed commitment to Agreement, and place the interest of their country and its people above all other considerations,” she continued.
The armed movements signatories to the peace agreement united within the CSP suspended their participation in the implementation process in December 2022. On April 5, a Malian army plane flew over CMA positions in the north of the country, particularly in Kidal. In a statement issued in the process, the CMA said considered this overview as a violation of the ceasefire of 2014. None of the parties has yet expressed itself on the proposals of the international mediation.
