PDI-P politician Panda Nababan believes the President Jokowi rejected the proposed extension of the President’s term of office from the start the idea was rolled out. To strengthen his statement, Panda revealed a few stories from behind the palace walls about the ‘preparation’ for the 2024 General Election.
Panda said Jokowi had gathered his ministers and asked about their desire to run for the 2024 presidential election. A number of ministers expressed their desire to fight in the 2024 presidential election to Jokowi.
“President Jokowi, as I heard the story, he has asked Airlangga (Coordinating Minister for the Economy), whether he wants to go forward or not to become President, Airlangga said going forward,” said Panda in the Detik.com x Total Politics Perspective Competition, Wednesday (13/4/2022).
Jokowi also asked the Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir, and the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno. In fact, Jokowi has also asked the chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani.
“(Jokowi) asked Sandiaga Uno, Sandiaga Uno said go ahead. He asked Erick, come forward. He asked Puan, go forward,” said Panda.
Minister of Defense Prabowo has also been asked by Jokowi. However, Prabowo’s answer was not as broad as the other 4 figures.
“He asked Prabowo, he said, ‘If you have your permission,’ Prabowo said,” said Panda.
Panda believes that Jokowi’s attitude is a sign that the 2024 election will not be postponed. Moreover, Jokowi has also stated that the next election will still be held on February 14, 2024.
