PD Puglia councilor Mazzarano self-suspends himself from the group

(ANSA) – BARI, APRIL 11 – The Puglia regional councilor of the Democratic Party, Michele Mazzarano, has suspended himself from the group’s activity in the Puglia Region. This was announced by the councilor himself, sentenced in 2022, on appeal, to 9 months in prison (suspended sentence) for electoral corruption. “In these hours – he says – I see my name improperly linked to the ongoing legal proceedings. I consider this choice to be serious political damage to my person and to the Democratic Party, also because it ends up lending credence to the thesis according to which it itself is comparable to a den of criminals and evildoers, putting everyone in the same cauldron without distinction of stories, facts and circumstances. Therefore we are faced with a clear political and electoral exploitation”. “I have just written, also in the form of self-defense, to the regional guarantee commission of the Democratic Party – he adds – to inform them that in recent months I have not renewed my membership with the Democratic Party. And, to avoid further association of my person with the ongoing legal proceedings, I am suspending myself from the activity of the Democratic Party’s advisory group.” (HANDLE).
