The Dr. Francisco E. Moscoso Puello Teaching Hospital reflects the great reality of the situation due to Covid -19 at the moment: more are going to have PCR tests than those who are going to be vaccinated.
At the vaccination center of this hospital around 11:00 in the morning there were only nine people, most of whom were going to get the first dose. Meanwhile, in the area next to it, where tests are carried out to detect the virus, more than 15 people lined up.
A lady who works in the hospital passed by and began to tell people “There is an outbreak, outbreak, outbreak.” An example of this is that in this medical center the amount of tests that are being done has been increasing in the last month. Before, 150 tests were done daily and because there were so many, appointments were placed. Later, the demand began to decrease, but again it is significantly increased, according to a nurse, as the current demand is for almost 100 tests a day.
It is important to clarify that not all people who resort to Moscoso Puello to detect Covid are because they have symptoms. Now the Covid test is requested to go on a trip, have operations or a medical procedure.
At noon yesterday, 62 people had gone to this hospital to get vaccinated.
Aracelis got her second dose three months after the first. She was late because she was scared, as the first dose “knocked her arm down” and gave her various symptoms. However, she now went to Moscoso Puello motivated by the state’s willingness to present the vaccination card to go to the supermarket, stores and other places.
Francisco went to get his second dose. When asked when the first one was put on, he answered “uuuuf”, highlighting that the “Dominican is like that”, referring to the obligation to present a vaccination card in public establishments.
A man was in the vaccination area, but what he would really do there is look for the results of a PCR test for his daughter who had a stroke and must undergo emergency surgery, being a requirement to present a negative result of Covid.
Low presence
This same situation existed in the vaccination center of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. Starlin Mariano, who is in charge of this area, told Listín Diario that on Mondays and Tuesdays they guide how citizens will attend to get vaccinated. Therefore, apparently this week will be “very weak” because few people had been to the place, the majority being those from the first dose.
Compared to last week, where the vaccination centers were full, this Monday at noon few people had come to the Olympic Center.
“At the beginning of last week it was 500 to 1,000 vaccines per day. Now, maybe we have 50 at noon. By telling you, the demand for the first dose increased, before it was for the third dose, ”said Mariano.
For the doctor, the drop is due to the fact that last week people resorted to getting vaccinated due to the state measure, so there are fewer people left without the inoculation.
PCR tests are also being carried out at the Olympic Center.
UASD Center
In this place, before the aisle seats were full, with no space. Currently, these areas are looking forward to those who wish to be vaccinated.
The Vaccination Center of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) has also been the scene of people who seek to create a mafia with vaccination cards, since many, without wanting to inoculate themselves, go to the place to ask for the card to be able to show it in the establishments. For this reason, the nurses were alert.
The person in charge of the center, Arsenia Lugo, said that the attendance at the beginning of this week will be very low compared to last week because while around 200 people were being vaccinated, as of yesterday afternoon, the UASD had been attended by about 80 people .
“Attendance has been very low, compared to the past few days, which was massive (…) I didn’t see any news last night, but just in case, did the president or Raquel talk that the card will no longer be delivered? I say , because today people have not wanted to come to get vaccinated, “said Lugo.
Vaccines and contagion
Dr. Indira Jiménez, in charge of the Covid area of the Moscoso Puello Hospital, reported that this Monday there were 27 patients admitted for the virus, of which there are seven were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
THE INTERNS
Situation of cases
Of the patients admitted to the ICU, there are two who have shown improvement and will therefore be transferred to the ward, but some will be transferred to intensive care. “We always make the exception that the majority of patients who are arriving did not receive any of the doses of the vaccine or only have one and they neglected to get the second one,” said Jiménez.
