PC Launch of The Last of Us Part 1 Proves Challenging: Steam Offers Money Back Guarantee Without Playtime Restrictions

The PC version of The Last of Us Part 1 has been having a hard time since launch, with many gamers reporting numerous bugs, glitches and performance issues. These issues have led to a flurry of negative reviews on the Steam platform. However, there seems to be a positive side to unhappy players: Steam offers refunds for playing, regardless of how long you play. According to one of the Reddit users, he received a refund even after playing the game for 3.7 hours.

One of the reasons for the refund appears to be the long shader compilation time in The Last of Us Part 1. When the game was released on mid-range PCs, it took up to two hours to compile shaders, which exceeded Steam’s time limit for refunds.

This isn’t the first time the game has run into issues during launch. Cyberpunk 2077 is a similar example where CD Projekt Red had to refund about 30,000 customers due to bugs and glitches. Naughty Dog initially delayed the release of The Last of Us Part 1 from March 3 to March 28, 2023 in order to be able to finalize the game, but apparently this did not help.

A recent patch has fixed issues for some players with crashes due to insufficient memory, performance, and other issues. However, for unsatisfied buyers, a refund through Steam may be the best option. The developer, Naughty Dog, has acknowledged the issues and is working on fixes to fix them, and only time will tell how they deal with it.
