Indonesian Team for Thomas Cup and Uber 2022 finally officially formed. Marcus Fernaldi Gideon absent from the championship.
The world’s most prestigious badminton team championship will be held in Bangkok, Thailand on May 8-15, 2022. The Thomas and Uber teams each consist of five singles players and seven doubles players.
The Head of Binpres PBSI Rionny Mainaky said there were some changes in the Thomas Cup squad because there were players who were recovering from injuries and also preparing for the 2021 SEA Games. Even so, the target of defending the title was still set by PBSI.
“For Thomas’s team, there are indeed slight changes compared to last year. Leo/Daniel and Chico will be focused on the SEA Games and Marcus is still in the post-operative recovery stage. So we replaced them with Bagas/Fikri and Syabda. We also included Tegar for his experience going forward. ,” said Rionny in a PBSI release, Monday (18/4/2022).
“But even so, the quality of Thomas’s team remains the same and believes they can defend the title,” he continued.
Meanwhile in Uber CupPBSI only retained Nita Violina Marwah and Jesita Putri Miantoro as former Uber Indonesia teams last year. The rest are young debutants.
“In the Uber team, all of them are young players, this is an opportunity for them to test their abilities. So this is not a random choice, but I have coordinated with the coach to see that their performance in training is indeed decent,” said Rionny.
“For the group stage I believe they can get through and I hope they can advance to the semifinals and create a surprise. I hope that all of them can play optimally both the Thomas team and the Uber team,” hoped Rionny.
