The Ministry of Health has presented a new remuneration model for medical practitioners, which is planned to be introduced in seven years. It is expected that the average salary of health care workers will increase to the average salary of the Latvian economy of 2.74.

Since the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Health, in co-operation with the State Chancellery, has organized think tanks for the development of a remuneration model for medical practitioners. They were attended by medical practitioners and their representative professional organizations, healthcare employers and university teachers, as well as policy makers.

The main result of the think tank’s work is a seven-year development plan, during which the increase in salaries for medical practitioners would increase gradually, ensuring adequate remuneration for the doctor’s education, skills and economic level.

In the show Afternoon the intended development plan shall be presented by the Minister of Health Ilze Ņķele.

The proposed model is evaluated by the Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Young Doctors Association Kārlis Rācenis and the head of the Latvian Health and Social Care Workers’ Trade Union Valdis Keris.
