Paying Tribute to Victims of Recent Attacks in Israel: Gathering in Dijon Draws Attention from Licra and Various Associations

This Tuesday, October 10, around 200 people gathered at Place de la Libération in Dijon to pay tribute to the victims during the recent attacks in Israel.

For several days, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has violently resumed with deadly attacks between Hamas and the State of Israel. There are more than 1,700 victims, including eight French people according to the Quai d’Orsay.

In Dijon, Licra (International League against Racism and Anti-Semitism) invited the people of Dijon to the rally in front of the town hall on Place de la Libération “to express together the emotion that runs through them.”

About 200 people gathered to show their support. It’s obvious to come, we can’t let such a terrible action happen without reacting. We can’t act as if nothing happened. It touched me, it moved me.”reacts a woman from Dijon.

President of the Jewish religious association of Dijon, Israel Cemachovic is upset by recent events. We are present to express our horror at what happened. It’s not a fight, it’s barbarity. The political debate is open of course, but we cannot justify the massacre of women, children, the kidnapping.”

For Françoise Tenembaum, president of Licra, this gathering is aimed at all citizens and all personalities who want to fight against terrorism. “Unacceptable acts have happened. Hamas has killed children, kidnapped old people, raped women, put children in cages… It is unthinkable to carry out such actions. The values that the Licra upholds are is respect for others in diversity.”

Associations and political parties from all sides were present. With the exception of France Insoumise and the NPA, which did not join in this action.
