The rate change will take effect on September 1. If you go on a summer holiday, you don’t have to pay to debit card.
It concerns customers with a DirectPackage, StudentPackage or BasicPackage, a spokesperson for the bank explains to RTL. Anyone who has such a package would therefore do well to limit the number of cash withdrawals abroad, or to take euro notes from the Netherlands. It doesn’t matter for the costs whether you pull €10 or €500 from the wall.
Cash withdrawals in foreign currencies have always had to be paid for.
In the Netherlands too
Debit card payments are becoming less and less, so the costs per transaction are rising, the bank explains. Pinning at a Geldmaat or Rabobank ATM itself will remain free of charge. At ATMs of non-bank operators, such as GWK Travelex, EuroNet and YourCash, which are mainly located in tourist areas such as the center of Amsterdam, you also pay €0.75 per withdrawal in the Netherlands.
ABN Amro previously caused a stir by announcing that customers who withdraw more than €12,000 per year in cash. They will pay on the amount above €5 per withdrawal and 0.5% on the amount withdrawn.
