The rise of technology has opened up a new sector in the economy, namely the sharing economy.
We only have to think of platforms like Turo or Airbnb in particular. We can thus rent out our car or our apartment when we are not using them.
Couldn’t this logic be applied to our entertainment services or apps?
After all, if you have a Netflix Premium account, you are allowed 4 users simultaneously. A Spotify Family account gives you 6 users on the account.
That doesn’t mean we’re taking advantage of all that space that’s included in our plan. We might only have three people on our Netflix Premium account and four on our Spotify Premium account.

Yes, the prices are in Euros, but if we convert, we see that we are still saving.

What are the prices of Spliiit or ShareSub?
Obviously, these platforms do not act voluntarily and they take a cut from the rental of one of our spaces.
On the other hand, they allow us to manage payments automatically rather than having to chase money from people who sign up for one of our subscriptions.
Not to mention that it prevents us from sharing confidential information between co-subscribers.
The fees are not exorbitant, because the goal remains that it costs us less than if we subscribe ourselves to a subscription on Netflix, Disney or others.
We are talking about fees of around €1 when you rent one of our spaces, then 5% of the transaction when you subscribe to someone’s space.
Are Spliiit and ShareSub reliable and legal?
Spliiit and ShareSub are platforms that have been available for a few years, so we don’t have to worry about their reliability.
The big question that many will ask is about the legality of these services.
Both of these platforms will obviously say that they are legal, however there are nuances.
On the one hand, it is true that they do not infringe copyright. In this respect, they are not illegal.
On the other hand, it is wrong of them to say that they do not contravene the contractual conditions of the platforms.

Is it so illegal that the police will show up at our house and give us a fine? No.
In the worst case, the risk that can happen to us is that the platform (Netflix, Spotify or other) decides to terminate our subscription, because we violate its rules.
The fact remains that we all know someone who passes on their access to one of their subscriptions to a loved one and the entertainment platforms don’t seem to mind…
In short, the risk of retaliation appears low, but they are not non-existent. So it is up to us to see if it is worth the effort to save on our subscriptions.
