Cancer symptoms improve with early detection, but worryingly, esophageal cancer often causes hard-to-detect signs.

Fortunately, there is a warning sign that indicates the presence of a tumor in the esophagus, which we explain to you, according to the newspaper “Express”.

The location of the esophageal polyp, which starts in the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach, means that symptoms most often appear when you eat, plus the first symptom of esophageal cancer is usually “dysphagia.”

Dysphagia is described as taking more time and effort to move food or liquid from the mouth to the stomach.

It usually starts at the lower end of the esophagus and will most likely develop in this area because it is the site of acid reflux and grows slowly in this highly acidic environment.

As it grows, it blocks the lower part of the esophagus, which means it becomes difficult to swallow, food seems to stick in the throat, and sometimes causes discomfort, coughing, nausea and vomiting.

Other food-related symptoms such as nausea and indigestion may also start to appear, your appetite suffers and you start to lose weight as a result.

In addition to these symptoms, other serious signs of esophageal cancer include:

stomach ache.

Symptoms of indigestion (such as frequent belching).

Cough that doesn’t get better.

hoarse voice.

Feeling tired or lack of energy.

Pain in the throat or center of the chest (especially when swallowing).

So, if you have symptoms of esophageal cancer, you should consult your doctor without delay.

Then, if your doctor is concerned, they’ll perform an endoscopy by placing an endoscope through a thin tube that’s threaded through your mouth and down your esophagus for a closer look.

Additional tests such as a CT scan or endoscopic ultrasound may be needed.

Esophageal cancer is treated with surgery to remove the tumor and sometimes with the insertion of a stent to keep the esophagus open for food and liquids to pass through. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy may be needed.

How to reduce the risk of esophageal cancer?

– Stop smoking.

Stop consuming alcohol.

– Weight loss.

Follow a healthy diet that contains plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

– Avoid drinking excessively hot drinks.
