Paweł Małaszyński is not only a valued actor, but also a great vocalist. His band Cochise has been present on the Polish music scene for 20 years. The group released its eighth studio album in September. Leszek Możdżer guested on it. How did this collaboration come about? Both gentlemen told us about it on Dzień Dobry TVN.
How did the band Cochise come about?
Paweł Małaszyński emphasized that music is an integral part of his life. – It is an outlet, it is my therapist, it is my love, it is my freedom, space, it gave me freedom and space. Music allowed me to reconcile, first with the world, and most importantly, with myself – said the artist.
– We came from a rock, metal environment. He always dreamed of starting a band. Somewhere towards the end of high school, that was the moment when he and his friends from the housing estate started their first band, which was called Apogeum – said Joanna Małaszyńska, the wife of the actor and musician.
– When the band Paweł played in, Apogeum, fell apart, Paweł and the drummer stayed, and they called me to ask if I wanted to play with them. In short, that’s how Cochise came into being – explained guitarist Wojtek Napora.
Paweł Małaszyński confessed that no one expected the band to last 20 years. – It was a prank of an actor who is gaining some popularity. We met with many fantastic bands. Playing as support for Black Sabbath, playing as support for Godsmack, playing a joint concert with the band Riverside is a big event for us – said the artist.
When asked how his love of music began, the actor and vocalist confessed that it was from his father’s vinyl records. – Paweł was born and fulfilled some of my dreams. Paweł inherited some of my music from me. We had a typical big beat band, a bit of acting, I was also a participant in one of the cabarets in high school, and he inherited the pen from my mother. Mama Grażyna has a great pen, she writes brilliantly – said the actor’s father, Wiesław Małaszyński.
Paweł Małyszyński confessed that he came up with the current name of the band. – What is Cochise? I explained that it is an Indian, a chief and so on. A strong, powerful, expressive name – he explained. Unfortunately, it is also difficult to pronounce. How was it distorted? You will learn about this in the further part of the material.

The band recently released their 8th studio album, but the production of the album has been fraught with difficulties. – Since our last album “The World Upside Down” a lot has happened in my professional life and in my musical life, our musical life. Our drummer left us, when we started recording, actually this album was supposed to come out a year and a half ago, our producer left us, we had a lot of problems with the production of this album and when we finally got together, we met in January with Krzysiek Murawski, we went into the studio, I said: “Let’s forget about the past, our problems, we’re still together, we’re starting with a new drummer, with new material, with a new producer, let’s record the best album we can” and that’s what we did. We think this is our best album – said Paweł Małaszyński on Dzień Dobry TVN.
The band’s latest album features guest appearances played by Leszek Mozdzer. – Paweł called and asked: “will you play, and if you don’t want to, you don’t have to” – said the composer. Asked what seduced him in the music of the Cochise band, he replied that it was “the energy of this romanticism”. – You can feel that it’s about fulfilling a dream to be a musician. When you talk to the most famous musicians, who have achieved everything, they say that they would like to be small, unknown musicians, because they can no longer play in the garage. […] It’s such a beautiful moment when the guys keep playing with their hearts, […] this is what I like most about this band – said Leszek Możdżer.
