For many, “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” is a must-have at Christmas. However, a lot of time has passed since the premiere in 1973. This is how Pavel Trávníček has changed. Baking cookies, drinking mulled wine at the Christmas market, getting presents – there are traditions without which the run-up to Christmas would only be half as wonderful. Some film classics are also part of the regular program for many people. “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” is particularly popular – and has been for 50 years. But what would the story be without the prince, played by the then 23-year-old Czech Pavel Trávníček? He not only enchanted Cinderella and her stepsister, but also many viewers on their television screens. Even after the Christmas classic from 1973, he played the role of the prince a few times in other fairy tale films. For example, Trávníček was seen in “Snow White and Rose Red” in 1979 and in “The Third Prince” in 1982, where he again appeared as a couple with the Cinderella actress Libuše Šafránková. In 2018 he took on a role in the German film satire “The Great Rudolph” about the Munich fashion designer Rudolph Mooshammer. In addition to acting, Trávníček works as a voice actor and has already lent his voice to Alec Baldwin, Steve Guttenberg and Jeff Goldblum. In the “Cinderella” film adaptation, however, he had to be dubbed into the Czech original due to his dialect. Trávníček is still active as an actor, although only rarely. However, the 73-year-old is not thinking about retirement. “Of course, that’s a pretty old age that I am. For example, I don’t do theater anymore. I ran a private theater for over 40 years. What I’m still doing now is television productions or moderations like at the Advent concert,” he said in a recent interview with the news agency spot on news. On December 21st he will host the big Advent concert in Dresden. Late fatherhood at age 66. Trávníček wasn’t just looking for true love as a film prince. He also looked for her in real life – and apparently found her several times. He has been married for the fourth time since 2015. In December 2016, he and his wife Monika, who is 35 years his junior, became parents. While it was his wife’s first child after two miscarriages, it is already the third for Trávníček. He has two adult sons from his first marriage. On his Instagram channel, the Czech always gives fans insights into his family life and can often be seen there with his youngest son. “People thought it was a fairy tale like any other.” While Pavel Trávníček still has both feet in life, many of the actors from the classic fairy tale are no longer alive. Cinderella Libuše Šafránková died in June 2021, her stepmother Carola Braunbock died in 1978. However, they were all immortalized by “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella”. And that even though nobody initially expected that the film would be so exciting. “Nobody would have thought that the success would continue like this. They thought it was a fairy tale like any other,” Trávníček said in an interview with RTL. “It makes you incredibly proud and grateful that this enthusiasm continues across generations even after 50 years.” This year he will once again enchant an audience of millions as Prince. The classic will be broadcast a whopping 16 times around Christmas Eve this year. When exactly, you can read here.
