Benjamin Pavard stopped with 1.4 per mille in Munich on Sonnenstrasse
In August 2022, Pavard was still driving with 1.4 per mille in his blood. The police stopped the Bayern player on Sonnenstrasse. After the check at 2:36 a.m., Pavard had to go to the police station, where his blood was drawn at 3:18 a.m. This is how the lavish alcohol level was then determined.
Legally, this was considered negligent drunken driving – according to the law, from a value of 1.1 per mille, this is no longer a violation of regulations, but a criminal offense. Pavard therefore had to give up his driver’s license immediately. In late summer, the Frenchman also received a penalty order from the Munich I public prosecutor’s office, against which he had appealed. Therefore, it should now come to a public criminal trial.
Pavard does not appear in court – and still has to pay a heavy fine
But it fell through yesterday because an agreement was reached at around 8 a.m. Shortly before the trial began, the court was informed “that the defense further limited the objection to setting the daily rate,” says spokesman Martin Swoboda.
Specifically: Pavard accepted a fine of 50 daily rates, which is common for first-time offenders. So he is not convicted. The amount of the daily rates set by the court is not yet legally binding. The judiciary does not want to name this, but it is known: Pavard’s salary at FC Bayern is estimated by industry experts at eight million euros gross per year. A fine of 50 daily rates means almost two net monthly salaries for him – that’s several hundred thousand euros.
Alcohol ride through Munich: Bayern star Pavard has to give up his rag
In addition to the fine, the penalty order also concerned Pavard’s driver’s license, which has been gone since the drunken drive in August. “The block for the re-issuance of the driver’s license is such that it lasts about two months,” says prosecutor Juliane Grotz. So the Frenchman won’t get his rag back until May. For nine months, Pavard was not allowed to drive and is not allowed to drive. His performance didn’t suffer: he scored two goals at the weekend.
