Brazilian international midfielder Paulinho, club world champion in 2012 with Corinthians Sao Paulo before playing for Tottenham and FC Barcelona, announced on Sunday that he was ending his career at the age of 36.
« I have had the privilege of winning many titles, of playing in two World Cups, of playing for Barça. I have left a great legacy. ” said the now ex-footballer in a video posted on Instagram.
Paulinho is one of the great idols of Corinthians, one of the most popular clubs in Brazil. With Timao, he was crowned Brazilian champion in 2011, before winning the Copa Libertadores in 2012 and then the Club World Cup, thanks to a 1-0 victory against Chelsea in the final.
And it was in this club that the Brazilian ended his career, last May, during a Copa Sudamericana match against the Uruguayan team Racing, a 3-0 victory in front of 45,000 spectators.
In Europe, this box-to-box midfielder who scored many headed goals spent two seasons at Tottenham (2013-2015) and one at Barça (2017-18), after a stint in China, at Guangzhou Evergrande.
In the national team, he scored 13 goals in 56 caps, winning the Confederations Cup in 2013, before playing in the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
