Paulien Cornelisse has cancelled her new theatre show entirely because she has been diagnosed with cancer. The comedian and writer announced this on her Instagram account.

“I am now being treated by very good doctors and nurses. It is all very difficult, but my family and I receive a lot of help from our dear friends and family,” writes Cornelisse (48).

She is scheduled to tour with her new show in the coming year Come. Cornelisse calls on people to go to a show by a comedian they don’t know yet. “Because thanks to the people who came to see me when I first started, I was able to learn my trade. So let yourself be surprised by an unknown name! In the meantime, I am focusing on recovery and seeking peace with my family.” People who had already ordered a ticket for her new show can get their money back.

From September she will be on the front page of the Volkskrant “as long as it lasts”. Her new book The confused guinea pig back in the office will be released as scheduled.

As a columnist she wrote for NRC Next and NRC for ten years and since 2018 three days a week for de Volkskrant.

Thyroid cancer

This is not the first time that Cornelisse has been diagnosed with cancer. In 2021, after a TV appearance on the talk show, she was diagnosed with cancer. a woman an email from a surgeon who said she needed to have a spot in her neck looked at. Her GP immediately referred her to the hospital, where thyroid cancer was diagnosed.

Surgery was needed, in which half of her thyroid gland was removed. A week after the surgery, she received a surprising phone call, she later said in an interview with the AD. The tumor turned out to be benign. “And I thought, huh. It was six months of nothing but ‘huh-feelings.’ So it wasn’t necessary at all? Then the doctor rightly said: ‘The only way to find out is to operate.'”
