The Fast and Furious film series is one of the highest-grossing franchises worldwide, gaining millions of fans. Coming Bonhams auction therefore, it attracted a lot of attention, because the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, which starred in the fourth installment of The Fast and the Furious and behind the wheel of which the very popular protagonist Paul Walker appeared (the actor died in a car accident in 2013), will be auctioned.
The car was brought to the US without the engine and other parts by Kaizo Industries before filming, and Walker himself later joined in the final assembly. At the same time, he requested several changes compared to the standard equipment, insisting, for example, on a Turbonetics intercooler, Nismo compression springs or a Nismo NE-1 exhaust system. In addition, he had the car fitted with nineteen-inch Volk Racing RE30 wheels at his request.
Thanks to various modifications, the car has increased power to 550 horsepower, while the GT-R’s official output is just 276 horsepower. The car thus fully corresponds to the character of its driver Paul Walker, who drove it several times in the film. And potential buyers don’t even have to worry about crashes. For the trick shots of chases, jumps and crashes, the studio used a stock Nissan Skyline GT-R with the necessary modifications to make it look identical.
After the filming of the film, the car went to the deposit of the US government, which seized it due to its dubious import into the country. According to the auction house, the whole matter was resolved in 2012, and the car subsequently traveled to Germany, where it became part of the Munich Motorworld exhibition. Among other things, the car is fully functional and its current owner had it thoroughly inspected before the sale.
The auction, which will take place from April 28 to May 5 in the Belgian capital of Brussels, can only be attended by interested parties who pass the extended verification of the organizing auction house.
