Paul Sobol, one of the last survivors of the Auschwitz concentration camp, died in Brussels on Tuesday at the age of 94.

Sobol was featured in the Canvas series this spring Children of the Holocaust. He died of a vein rupture, his son says.
Paul Sobol was born on June 26, 1926 in Paris. Two years later he moved with his family to Brussels. He lived there until the Nazis invaded Brussels, after which he went into hiding with his parents, brother and sister in Ixelles.
In June 1944 he was arrested by the Gestapo and put on the last train from Belgium to Auschwitz concentration camp, together with the rest of the family. Only he and his sister survived the camp.
Sobol returned to Brussels and married his childhood sweetheart Nelly.
