Tested positive for testosterone, Paul Pogba now has the sanction that belongs to him.
It’s the least expected season for Paul Pogba. The Juventus Turin central midfielder has been in serious trouble for a few weeks after his positive testosterone diagnosis.
Pogba confirmed positive for doping
After a test carried out on August 20 before the match on the first day of the Italian Serie A against Udinese (0-3 victory for the Old Lady), Paul Pogba was diagnosed positive for testosterone. A decision rendered by the Italian anti-doping agency (Nado) last September. While a second test was carried out to invalidate or confirm the first results, the French international central midfielder (91 caps, 11 goals) was not spared. The former Manchester United man tested positive again in October.
The Italian club immediately suspended their player and began looking for his successor on the market. If Juventus is considering parting ways with its midfielder, the Old Lady is still awaiting the final decision from the competent authorities. In the meantime, the Bianconeri have decided to lower the player’s salary. Indeed, Paul Pogba, like all footballers who have already reached the age of 24, will earn 42,477 euros gross, or approximately 2 thousand euros per month.

Pogba soon fixed on his fate
According to the information from the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian authorities should take charge of the case while waiting to see the possibility of transferring it to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). At the same time, the media indicates that the prosecutor in charge of doping cases will launch the procedure leading to a suspension within ten days. From then on, Paul Pogba will have 20 days to reach an agreement to obtain a reduced sentence. In the event that an agreement is not reached, a hearing could be scheduled within 40 days.

If Paul Pogba risks four years of suspension following his testosterone test, the same source underlines that the Frenchman should manage to negotiate an amicable agreement with the local authorities to be suspended for two years. This agreement, which will then have to be validated by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), would exclude any potential appeal to the CAS. However, it should be noted that the sanction imposed by Nado could be halved if Pogba manages to demonstrate the unintentional nature of this testosterone ingestion.
