Turin –
Paul Pogba caught in a doping case. Former Italian national team doctor Enrico Castellaci suspects there was an error in the use of certain substances.
Pogba is currently suspended because he failed a doping test. The test was carried out after a landslide 3-0 victory was achieved Juventus at Udinese headquarters, last Thursday (21/8/2023).
In that match, Pogba actually did not play and just sat on the bench. However, the 30-year-old midfielder was randomly selected to take the test, which turned out to be bad.
He will still undergo a second test. If the result is the same, Pogba is threatened with a more complicated and difficult situation.
Former head of the Italian national team’s medical team, Enrico Castellaci, revealed allegations that Pogba was not careful in using medicine or cream and the like. There is a possibility that he was exposed to nandrolone, which is quite easy to find, including in the treatment of anemia.
“I don’t know what type of substance was found, usually it was nandrolone, which can be found in pills, injections or creams. We need to see what the counter-analysis reveals, but in the meantime the player is suspended,” said Castellaci was reported by Football Italia.
“Testosterone cannot be prescribed for Pogba. It is possible that he was exposed to it accidentally. Usually it can be through creams or gels which are mistakenly thought to be harmless.”
“It would be a big problem if he received advice to use it. If he deliberately received this substance, then his sentence could be doubled,” he added.
In general, the penalty for doping cases is a two-year suspension. However, it can be doubled if athletes are found to have deliberately consumed substances to increase their performance.
