Paul Merson told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (03/13/21 at 1:55 pm) that Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka “has no vision.”

The television expert made it clear that Xhaka was “to blame” for Arsenal’s conceding against Burnley last week.

It was quite a comical goal for the Gunners, and while their fans didn’t see the funny side, their players continued that way during their Europa League win against Olympiacos in Greece midweek.

Former Arsenal player Merson explained that these kinds of problems “will keep happening” because players like Xhaka don’t see the big picture.

“That will continue to happen,” Merson said. “That is not vision. You should know as soon as that ball reaches you and the goalkeeper hits you perfectly.

“People can say that the goalkeeper has sewn it. The goalkeeper has made a beautiful pass so that David Luiz goes ‘bang’ for the first time.

“There was no need to touch it. My concern would be that you (Xhaka) haven’t seen that pass. That is my concern. You are a midfielder and you have not seen that pass.

“It’s the same in the middle of the week with Ceballos. There are four players around him. Do you see the picture. You have to know what’s going on before you get the ball, I blame Xhaka. I don’t blame the goalkeeper for that.

“And you have to have the vision. And if you don’t have the vision, it will keep happening. That means there is no vision (about mistakes that happen over and over again) «.

The fact is, Arsenal’s inability to play from behind and continue shooting in the foot doesn’t come from Arteta.

But those issues were quite visible when Unai Emery walked the touchline – Watford away comes to mind.

While these forward-thinking coaches have great ideas to try and bring Arsenal back to greatness, perhaps the simple fact is that many of these players are not good enough to don the colors of the North London giants.
