“She was a pretty woman, a bit like a Hollywood movie star,” McCartney says in the book. “I think part of the secret to her popularity, at least for my generation, was that she was quite a babe… In our boyish ways, we kind of liked her.”
The Beatles guitarist and singer also remembers the moment when he played a song with the band for the now 95-year-old queen, but they couldn’t figure out what she thought of it. “She didn’t have much to say about it. Yeah, I don’t know how to say it, but she just didn’t say much.”
In the meantime, the singer and the queen have met more often. Including in 1965 when McCartney and the other Beatles were honored by the Queen at Buckingham Palace for their work. In 1997 she knighted McCartney, giving him the title Sir.
