Paul de Leeuw is annoyed by Albert Verlinde: ‘Get your ass off!’

In the past, Paul de Leeuw was regularly annoyed by the hits of Albert Verlinde. When Paul had made another mistake, Albert eagerly used it to demand an apology.

For years, Paul de Leeuw was one of the biggest TV stars in the Netherlands. He made quite irregular shows and he sometimes crossed a line. “I once pushed someone into such a champagne mountain, because I thought the program should have some action,” he recalls in the Open Card program.

‘Give it a go, Albert!’

It was awkward, Paul said. “It’s the stupidest mistake; I gave her such a push in the champagne mountain. Those stacked glasses. Yes, what did I do? I ended up in a kind of blackout. I apologized and that girl accepted my apology. She had one small wound on her hand.”

Very annoying, but according to Paul it ended well. “And then Albert Verlinde… He demanded two days later at RTL Boulevard that I would apologize. I thought: get out of here soon!”

“Did he want an excuse again!”

Paul has also been charged once. “I once made a joke about the wedding of the Swedish princess who was getting married. That was so boring. Then I said: ‘You are actually waiting for a small car to hit a monument.’ That was also a slip of the tongue. Just on Twitter.”

With that joke, Paul referred to the attack on Queen’s Day 2009. “And then a Citizens’ Interests Foundation Breda came and filed a report with the Public Prosecution Service. They investigated and they said: ‘We are not going to prosecute.’ But then again Albert Verlinde demanded that I apologize to Burgerbelangen Breda.”

Nonsense

What a nonsense request from Albert, Paul thinks. “That was one man who lived somewhere in Breda and who had set up a foundation. This is how things escalate, when I think: that joke may have been oversimplified, but it was intended for my followers. Anyway, the whole community is watching.”

Paul makes his statements in Open Map, the talk show in which Robbert Rodenburg receives celebrities who do not feel like asking critical questions. In fact, Robbert would prefer that the entire conversation be about him. His guests also have to ask Robbert all prescribed questions.
