Writer Paul Auster died Tuesday night at his home in Brooklyn. He was 77 years old, he was battling lung cancer, complications from the disease took him away.
He was one of the most important authors of today’s American literature, his books were translated into more than forty languages, most of them also into Hungarian. The Invention of Solitude became known for the first time with his novel, his international fame was published in 1987 New York Trilogy brought for him.

Auster’s last novel, the Baumgartner was published last year.
Paul Auster’s family has been hit by tragedies in recent years. In 2021, the writer’s ten-month-old granddaughter died, and because of this, his son Daniel was charged with negligent homicide. Daniel Auster died in 2022 of a drug overdose.
