Mexico City.- The renowned Spanish center Pau Gasol will receive a great honor on August 12 by being included in the NBA Hall of Fame. The news was announced Thursday, revealing that Kareem Abdul-Jabar and Toni Kukoc will have the honor of introducing Gasol during the ceremony.
The NBA had previously confirmed that Toni Kukoc, the outstanding Croatian player who was part of the Chicago Bulls and won three NBA championships, would be in charge of presenting Gasol at the ceremony that will take place at Symphony Hall, in the Springfield town.
However, it was announced Thursday that legendary Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabar will also join Toni Kukoc at Gasol’s Hall of Fame induction.
The ceremony on August 12 will be a memorable event, as other notable basketball figures will also be honored, including players Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker and Dwayne Wade, the 1976 Women’s Olympian team, as well as successful coaches Gregg Popovich and Becky Hammond.
Pau Gasol, who became a two-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, has left an indelible mark on the league. During his 18 NBA seasons, Gasol played for various teams, including the Memphis Grizzlies, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, and Portland Trail Blazers.
With his elegant style of play, Gasol earned league recognition and won the Rookie of the Year award in 2002. Throughout his career, he played in a total of 1,226 regular-season games, starting 1,150 of them. He averaged impressive stats of 17 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.6 blocks per game.
In the postseason, Gasol also proved his worth by appearing in 136 games, 122 of them starts. During these games, he averaged 15.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.7 blocks.
